What are three words that would describe both your personality and your photographic style? I would have to say warm, fun, and unique!
What makes you happiest when shooting? I love when couples and I just click! I can totally tell when I have full trust from my clients and it makes everything go smoother and makes me feel more comfortable! I totally understand that taking pictures can be an extremely awkward thing, and most people don’t do it often! I also love when couples just click with each other and it’s like I’m not even there. I definitely don’t mind directing at all, but it’s amazing when you give a couple a little direction and they take it and make it unique to them and their relationship!
What do you find most challenging to shoot? Families! Trying to get 8 people to not blink in one picture is something I am really working on! I don’t do a lot of them, so that could also be why it’s so hard for me. But I’m working on it! 😜
Tell us a bit about your experience so far using the Show Me Your You prompts. So far I’m loving them! I like to have fun during my sessions, but I know not every couple is like that or wants every photo to be like that. The prompts are super good for those really intimate moments. The ones after we have fun and I want to stop time for a minute. The ones where I’m standing behind the camera crying and I have chills all over my body! They are vague enough to be able to be used anytime for anyone, but still specific enough to get emotion from my clients and it still be personal!
What’s one of the most emotional experiences you’ve ever had in a session? My most emotional was actually my latest in home. I love shooting in home because everything is so much more relaxed and couples tend to be more vulnerable at home. I used the "Contact" card from your deck, and they stared into each other’s eyes for a good 30 seconds, and the woman I was photographing started crying. She was so overwhelmed looking into her fiancés eyes that she said she saw everything in their future and she was so excited for it. I was balling, he started balling, and I actually stepped out to give them space for a bit. It was so beautiful, but I’m a sap honestly and I cry at every father daughter dance, all the hand written vows, all of it! It’s awful but i love it. Hahaha
What’s your favourite image you’ve ever taken? This photo (below) was taken when I met my bestie, Kenzie, she’s the co-owner of Kenz and Nick Photography, check them out on insta, you won’t regret it! But we met up for a shoot in Colorado and this was one of the first images we snapped. She just kind of did this on her own, and you can’t see it in the picture but her boyfriend, Nick, was freaking out and so scared and she was just hanging off a 12,000 ft mountain! It made me fall in love with adventure photography and I knew exactly those are the kind of people i want to photograph! The fearless and adventurous souls!
What advice would you give to someone wanting to achieve more authentic moments, expressions and connections in their sessions? Just play around with different techniques. Watch your couples, even meet with them before. Watch how they interact. Are they silly? Are they more serious? What do they do for fun? Take that and apply it! Create different movements and make them unique to the couple. I say the weirdest things to give my clients directions and 9/10 they don’t understand and just laugh which is the best anyways. Step out of the box, ask your favorite photographers for tips, most will love that you asked!! The sky is honestly the limit, all you have to do it reach for those stars!!
If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be? I think I’d either be a florist, obsessed with pretty florals all day everyday, or an interior designer! I love anything artsy and anything that I can create!
